While I do have a terminal degree, my career has not been that of the traditional academic. My path includes work in a wide variety of settings ranging from nonprofits to military contractors. I am an instructional designer with experience in industry and higher education (public, private, and for-profit). My background includes working in student services as a career counselor, academic advisor, and instructor for first-year students. I received my doctorate in 2007, in curriculum and instruction – instructional technology, focusing on the online delivery of career services. I also hold graduate degrees in administration and instructional psychology.
I am currently an Education Writer for OnlineCollege.org. Join me there at the Inside Online Learning blog for resources, reviews, and education/career information for online students and instructors, as well as a weekly Twitter chat: #IOLchat.
My previous employers include: the Distance Course Design and Consulting (DCDC) Group at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Kaplan Higher Education, KnowledgeTech, Inc., the University of South Florida, and Syracuse University.

- Instructional Design – online education
- Instructional Technology – product comparison and selection
- Support Services – career advising, academic coaching
- Evaluation – needs analysis, survey design
Offline I am learning to play the mandolin, working out, reading, and trying to get outside…
